CHILDREN’S BUREAU AUXILIARY MINUTES OF THE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING Tuesday, November 14, 2006Those in attendance were: Jennifer Bakx, Anna Marie Bruen, Ann Frick, Carol Herman, Sandy Kurker, Sue McClure, Anne McDaniel, Kathleen McGrath, Connie Odekirk, Mary Ann Pahud, Vicki Snider, Andra Sudler, Nancy Ulmer, Sharon Weedman, Pam West and guest Leslie Hankins.

The meeting was called to order by Andra Sudler, acting as president in Lisa Weedman’s absence.

The minutes were approved as written.

Treasurer Kathleen McGrath reported that she was receiving money for the Rosie Lanham fund, but had no formal report for this month.

Pam West distributed the Direct Service Treasurer’s Budget and Expense reports. She reported that the Board had just approved a recommendation that the girls at the Vivian Smith facility be part of the money for grades policy. Sue McClure moved and Connie Odekirk seconded that the Board’s recommendation be adopted. The motion passed without objection.

75th Anniversary Kathleen McGrath distributed the plans for the 75th Anniversary celebration. The official kickoff will be at the January meeting. Carol Herman suggested that the committee contact the Mayor’s office for a Proclamation to be presented at the Celebration Dinner. The Board recommended that the 75th Anniversary plans be adopted, and the membership agreed.

Angel Fund Sue McClure presented the three stained glass angels that artist, Mike Hoopengardner had made. The membership voted on which angel they wanted for the 2006 Angel. The red glass one won. Sue announced that she would be hosting a ‘stuff, lick, and mail’ the Angel Fund fundraising letters party Friday morning at 10:00 and would appreciate some members coming to help. She also announced that Patty and Graham Todd had agreed to mail all of the letters at their expense. Courage Center will be the recipient of the proceeds this year. Clerical Assistance Ann Frick asked that any information committee chairs want to put on our website, to send to her and she will put it on.

Client Assistance Sandy Kurker reported for chair, Shirley Lewis. She announced that the committee has three new members, Anne McDaniel, Donna Gildea, and Shelly Shartzer. The activity this month was to finish painting the aprons for the Dave Thomas Cookoff.

Courage Center Andra Sudler reported for chair, Jane Quinn. The activity this month was a Halloween party. The kids played Halloween Bingo and had cider and donuts.

Evans House Sandy Kurker announced that the Thanksgiving Dinner was Thursday evening, November 16.

Garrard House Marie Miller reported that the girls went to a ‘paint your own pottery’ store in Broad Ripple in November. They painted a plate and seemed to thoroughly enjoy it. In October, Linda Reinking cooked and served a Halloween dinner. The committee will be serving a Thanksgiving dinner.

Marie met with Lisa Myer, the house director, and they decided to have a Christmas Open House to show off the new furniture and décor. It will be Thursday, December 14, from 4:00 – 7:00. Carol Herman designed the postcard invitation. They are inviting around 150 people. The girls have a budget of $200 and will be planning the buffet.

Terre Haute Mary Ann Pahud reported that Andra Sudler and she went to Terre Haute on Halloween day with cider and cookies. They played Halloween Bingo with the boys and passed out gifts to the winners. They ordered pizza for dinner.

Fashion Show Andra Sudler announced that the committee is waiting to hear back from Coldwater Creek regarding the style show. Past Presidents will be models, and Debbie Knox of Channel 8 will be MC. The favors are notepaper cubes with 75th Anniversary logo. It will be at the Fountains in Carmel.

Membership Twelve potential new members were invited to the coffee at Andra’s house; only three attended. We will do another event after the first of the year and will include a tour of Courage Center.

Sustainer Sharon Weedman announced that several sustainers are getting together after the first of the year. Some are just meeting for coffee or lunch and others are meeting in homes. This is part of the 75th anniversary celebration, and it will be suggested that a $750 or $75 donation to the auxiliary would be an appropriate gift.

Project Study Carol Herman suggested that Project Study look into a Dog Parade as a fundraising idea.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 11:00.

All were invited to stay for soup.
